MARKETING
Marketing is simply letting potential customers know who you are and what you do.  You'll want to make customers comfortable that they're inviting
a neighbor, not a stranger, into their home.  To do this, show your name, address and phone number prominently and emphasize that you are a
member of the community.

WORD OF MOUTH - Each time you finish a job, offer your customer several business cards (see sample card) to pass out to friends, and
especially, to the person who will receive the "good deed."

POSTED NOTICES - Print several copies of your notice (see sample notice) and post them on public bulletin boards.  Ask permission to post in
non-public places like Senior Centers or hardware stores.

PRINTED MEDIA - Newspapers are usually happy to print notices of charitable services available.  Create one (see sample news release) and mail
it to your local newspaper.

                                                                   Robert Smith is Uncle Fixit

Robert Smith, of 123 Elm Street here in Hometown, has joined the Uncle Fixit organization and is prepared to offer his services to local residents.
Uncle Fixit, Inc. is a volunteer service whose screened members act as repairmen for those in their neighborhoods who need help.

A typical customer is  the widow whose late husband used to fix everything around the house.  She may be very talented in other areas, but she is
inexperienced with repairs. Uncle Fixit is like a family member who's handy with tools and is happy to help out.

Installing a towel rack, repairing a leaky faucet or replacing a lamp switch can be a major problem for those who are not adept with tools, but they
are easy jobs for Uncle Fixit.  He can even help with earthquake preparedness or replacing all your lightbulbs with energy-saving compact
fluorescents.  However, he can't do everything.  He doesn't claim to be a professional repairman and will turn down a job that is beyond his talents.

He does not charge for his services beyond reimbursement for actual parts costs. However, he will ask his customer  to "pass on the good deed," in
other words, to help somebody else in need, if possible.   It might take the form of cooking a meal, providing transportation to the doctor or
supermarket, sewing, knitting, babysitting, house-sitting or just visiting someone who's ill, lonely or bereaved.  Ideally, the good deed will continue to
travel.

If you are unable to "do it yourself" because of age, infirmity or unfamiliarity with tools, and would like a visit from Uncle Fixit, give him a call at  (555)
123-4567.  For more information about Uncle Fixit, Inc., look online at www.unclefixit.org.

unfamiliarity with tools, please call on me.  Although I'm not a professional

There is no charge for my services, other than actual parts costs.  However, I will
ask you to "pass on the good deed," in other words, to help somebody else in need.

visit someone who's ill, lonely or bereaved.  Ideally, the good deed will continue to
travel.
