Our cost per volunteer is about $300 per year for insurance and organizational overhead. Uncle Fixit, Inc. has a unique mode of operation which
greatly magnifies the effect of the donated dollar. For other charities who simply distribute donated dollars, a measure of efficiency is the
percentage of each donated dollar that reaches the donee, with 80% considered quite good. Therefore, a $300 donation to another charity would
produce $240 worth of benefit.
The value of an hour of our volunteer's time can be compared to that of a freelance handyman, which runs approximately $60 per hour. Assume
that the average volunteer donates 10 hours of his time per week, 50 weeks per year. That's 500 hours for a value of $3000 per year.
Therefore, a $300 donation to Uncle Fixit would produce $3000 worth of benefit, or a multiplication of 1000%! Plus all the "passed on good
deeds"...priceless!
